“Myth Telling”
A two-day clay workshop with Maria Koumbourli, (Paloma Negra), in Patmos
On June 21 and 22, 2025, the ceramist Maria Koumbourli, also known by her artistic name Paloma Negra, invites the public of Patmos to a special two-day ceramics workshop entitled “Myth Telling”, in her lush green garden in Kampos.
Maria Koumbourli lives and works in Patmos, creating handmade clay works that balance between art and functionality. Under the signature Paloma Negra, she presents ceramic lighting, decorative and utilitarian objects inspired by landscape, nature and organic forms. Her creations are characterized by a poetic simplicity and a contemplative approach to craftsmanship that honors the process as much as the end result. In addition to her work in her studio, she organizes educational workshops and presents her work in selected locations around the island.

“Myth Telling” is an experiential exploration of myth through handmade ceramics. Without the use of a wheel, participants will create their own clay forms and symbols inspired by personal or collective narratives. On the second day, all the works will be assembled into a collective scenography – an ephemeral installation that embodies the group’s narrative. The ceramics will be left in the space to dry and then fired on site in a kiln. Participants will be able to pick up their work a week later or have it mailed to them for a small additional cost.

The workshop is addressed to adults (18+), while the number of participants is limited to six, ensuring personal guidance and a calm, creative atmosphere. A light handcrafted lunch and local wine is provided during the sessions, enhancing the sense of hospitality and community involvement. The total cost of participation for the two days is 120 euros, and to register, please contact 6984501427 or email palomanegra@hotmail.co.uk.

This workshop is a unique opportunity to connect with the land, creation and collective imagination – in a place full of myths like Patmos.
