In a small place, we often say that there are fewer choices and opportunities are limited. Perhaps this is more of a myth than a reality when there are people with enthusiasm, perseverance and a love for what they do.

Faidora’s story is a perfect example of this. In recent years, the young dancer has been dividing her time between Athens and Patmos, travelling to the island to share her knowledge, experience and love of dance with children and adults alike.

Under the auspices of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Patmos, it offers dance classes to children from the age of 3½, as well as to adults, whilst also organising artistic and creative workshops, providing yet another space for expression and creativity.

And so, at the end of the school year, all this work takes shape and becomes a performance. The children take to the stage, the months of hard work are transformed into movement and music, and the audience has the chance to see at first hand what can be created when creativity is given the space to flourish.

These performances are among those small, beautiful moments that are well worth seeking out in Patmos at the start of summer. Not just for the spectacle, but to applaud the children who tried, dreamed and created, and also their teacher, who continues, week after week, to travel around the island and open up new paths for them.
