The Society of Trees
The “Society of Trees” was founded in Patmos in September 2012 – in the form of a Civil Non-Profit Company – in order to develop environmental and cultural activities. The main objective of the Society of Trees is the creation of a forest in the area of Kouma Hill. This hill is located on the small “peninsula” defined by the beaches of Meloi, Agriolivado and the main road.Βα
The vision of the pioneers, Spyros and George, is to create a forest park in the heart of Patmos, which will consist of endemic trees. Their intention is to create the conditions for the development of an autonomous local ecosystem in the area, which will naturally contribute to the whole island.
The objectives of the Tree Society include research, study and implementation of environmental projects in cooperation with local authorities. Raising public awareness on both local and international environmental issues through the organization of events with informative, educational and cultural material. The production and promotion of audiovisual productions of a cultural and environmental nature. Also, the exploration of the possibilities of finding national and community funds for the implementation of their objectives, with a corresponding boost to the local economy.
