Manolis Pentes
artist
Manolis Pentes could literally be described as “the man next door”. He could also be described as serious and conscientious in his professional activity until his retirement, that of a municipal employee, polite and at the same time sparing in his words and expressions. And so he really is, until the moment he puts on the apron and takes up his brushes and spatulas. Then, as if by magic, another man emerges from within him and a whole world of colors and shapes spills out into space, a world that has the ability to illuminate our own and make us travel.
The most impressive is that Manolis is self-taught in painting! His talent is genuine and pure. In his early days, his works were figurative, landscape paintings in oils, acrylics and mixed media.
For several years he was engaged in Byzantine iconography, in which he was initiated by the great hagiographer of the Monastery of the Annunciation in Patmos, Olympiada Vasilakis.
Gradually and as he continued to mellow artistically, he began to turn to “abstract” painting. For the past decade or so, since 2014, his expression has focused primarily on color compositions with acrylics and mixed media, tending towards complete abstraction in several of his works.
Manolis, apart from being talented in his art, is also very “productive”! In his humble studio hidden in a not so popular corner of the island, his works pop up everywhere and apart from the studio you can find them in numerous private collections all over the world!
Similarly, he has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Greece and the rest of Europe, while from August 2019 to December 2022, he collaborated with the artists’ collective Art Revisited Collective (ARC).
