The Cannon of Peace

On Sunday 18 May at the Patmion Cultural Centre and for one performance only, at 18:30 in the afternoon, the Puppet Theatre of Crete presents its brand new production, “The Cannon of Peace”, with the support of the Municipality of Patmos.

The “Cannon of Peace” was born 45 years ago. It grew up with generations of children, went to all schools, travelled abroad, won awards and still has friends everywhere, young and old. After all these years, its author, Frosso Hatoglou, it gives a new life through the performances of the Puppet Theatre of Crete.

How did a huge and rusty cannon come to be found in the middle of a meadow? And why are all the animals and plants afraid of it? The Rabbit and the Rat are afraid of it just by looking at it! But the wind and the rain brought the newborn Daisy next to Mr. Canon. Will the tiny Daisy be able to face him? Daisy, Cannon, the Sun, the Moon and their other friends will “come alive” on the Puppet Stage, sending a universal message about the power of Love, which defeats evil, of Peace, which “fights” war, of Nature, which perseveres and resists destruction. The Cannon of Peace will sound again!

At the performances is used the technique of black theatre. This is an innovative technique where, in combination with the technique of warm lighting, the human actors disappear completely and the puppets, together with the bright colours, appear to the eyes of the audience to move magically. These are professional puppet shows with large puppets and original sets.

The general admission is 8 euros.
