Slow Food Patmos
nutritional trend
Slow Food is a global grassroots organization founded in 1989 to prevent the disappearance of local food habits and traditions, to stand up against the rise of fast food tendency and to combat our growing lack of interest about the food we eat, where it comes from and how our food choices affect the world around us.
Slow Food has grown into a global movement involving millions of people in more than 160 countries, aiming to ensure that everyone has access to good, clean food that is produced and distributed fairly.
The Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity, coordinates actions that defend local food traditions, protect food communities, preserve food biodiversity and promote quality artisanal products.
In Patmos, the products that have been selected in this context are anthonero, xinomyzithra, the local variety of fava beans, the traditional cheese pie and schinopsomo. Also locally, you will find chefs who coordinate and embrace the Slow Food philosophy at the Votris restaurant, the vegetarian restaurant Pernera and the Italian restaurant Oklaka. Worthy of mention is the Slow Food garden located in the Patoinos estate, which gathers the majority of the island’s aromatic plants, indigenous tree species and some other crops, to be used mainly for educational purposes.
