Student Dimitra Giamaiou received an award at the Pan-Hellenic and Pan-Cypriot School Newspaper and Journalism Competition organized by the newspaper “To Vima”.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

A particularly significant achievement for Patmos and the island\u2019s school community took place at the 2nd Pan-Hellenic and Pan-Cypriot School Newspaper and Journalism Competition, organized by the newspaper *To Vima*. Dimitra Giamaiou, a sophomore in high school, won the Best Article Award for her piece titled \u201cI Live on the Edge,\u201d proudly representing the school newspaper \u201cTo Vima tis Patmos.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

The award ceremony took place on May 9, 2026, at the Lighthouse of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, in an atmosphere of emotion and creative youthful expression. Dimitra took the stage<\/a> accompanied by her teacher, Evanthia Gaitanidi, and received the award from Professor of Linguistics Christoforos Charalambakis, one of the most prominent figures in Greek linguistics and editor of the Dictionary of the Academy of Athens. <\/p>\n\n

This year\u2019s competition attracted more than 300 schools from Greece and Cyprus, with over 150 school newspapers participating. The young student\u2019s achievement takes on even greater significance when one considers that she comes from a small, remote island in the Aegean Sea, proving that creativity, thought, and an authentic voice know no geographical boundaries. <\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Dimitra\u2019s meeting with Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki was particularly symbolic; the minister personally congratulated her on her success. A few days later, on May 15, she, along with teachers Evanthia Gaitanidi and Anastasia Chroni, appeared on MEGA\u2019s \u201cNow<\/a>\u201d program, discussing the experience of receiving the award and the power of student journalism. <\/p>\n\n

This success is a source of pride not only for Dimitra and her teachers, but also for the entire island of Patmos, reminding us that even \u201con the edge,\u201d voices can be heard far and wide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
