Entertainment Guide
For many years in the past there was a “predetermined” flow in the entertainment of Patmos: breakfast in the cafes of Skala, swimming on the beaches, eating, the first drinks in the square of Osia Lesvia or Levia as we call it on the island, then the music would be turned off due to the proximity to the holy place of the monastery and as hordes we would all descend to Skala, where there were the internal bars, from which we usually left after sunrise….!
Today, this scene has changed quite a bit, as many new shops have been added and new venues have been created. And as much as this creates a sweet melancholy for the nostalgic fanatics of the past, it can’t help but be a positive thing that there are many more and better quality options.
For your breakfast there are three main options: the several cafes in Skala, where you will meet most people, as this is where the pulse of the island beats, the wonderful balconies in Hora, which are definitely quieter and will offer you this unsurpassed view of the island from above and the third option, the more “isolated” places, such as Cafe Vagia or Diogenes in Grikos.
If you choose to have a regular lunch, then a good suggestion would be the several options at the beach of Kampos, the taverna at Agriolivado – at the two most organized beaches of the island, or the tavernas in Petra area.
For your dinner, however, things get more complex. Here the choices are multiplied and apart from the two main settlements – Skala, Hora – where the largest number of restaurants are concentrated, there are numerous “isolated” options, such as Lampi, Benettos, Petra, Pleiades, Tarsanas, etc.
“One” drink to end? Here the old Hora – Skala sequence would be convenient, because you would catch everything! But the recent trend wants both options to work in parallel. So both Hora and Skala are fighting to win you over, each with their own advantages.
Hora is the “classic” choice, which unfolds in a beautiful aesthetic landscape and brings us all together – sometimes very, very close! Skala again, less pretentious, has been gaining considerable ground in recent years in the preferences of visitors of the island, who engage with the residents, creating a very interesting amalgam.
Of course, the above suggestions are purely indicative and cover only a small and subjective sample of the options that Patmos has to offer. In any case, however, it will generously give you its energy and eroticism, a feeling that is a common secret among the fanatical and long-term lovers of the island!
