“Vespers at the Windlight” – Photography Exhibition by Danae Kamitsi at the Stavrakas Residence

The Stavrakas Residence in Hora of Patmos will host the solo photography exhibition of Danae Kamitsi, titled “Vespers at the Windlight”, from July 1st to 15th, under the auspices of the Patmos Trust.

Danae Kamitsi, a French-Greek visual artist who spent the first fifteen years of her life on Patmos, is currently studying at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR) in Mulhouse, France. Patmos remains a lasting source of inspiration for her work—through its light, its landscapes, and the quiet presence of its people and rituals. “Vespers at the Windlight” is a photographic homage to the island’s summer vespers—sacred evening services that mark a pause in the daily rhythm and connect the present with generations past. Through her lens, Danae captures the fleeting beauty of these moments where, as she says, “time seems to briefly come to a halt.”

“The vespers radiate a pleasantly ethereal atmosphere— a pause in daily life, a gathering, an eternal thread between yesterday and today. Same time, same place, same people. It’s as if a window in time gently opens…” – Danae Kamitsi

Inspired by the humanistic eye of photographer Robert McCabe, Danae’s images blend emotional intimacy with a quiet awareness of change. She documents the unchanging landscapes bathed in evening light, prayerful gestures, adorned icons, fluttering flags, and children running – fragments of stillness and celebration that speak of tradition, memory, and identity.

The opening event will take place on Tuesday, July 1st at 7:30 p.m., and the exhibition will be open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
