Exhibition of Painting & Photography by Linda Kessler
From 21 to 29 July 2025, the Patmos Cultural Centre hosts the exhibition of paintings and photographs by Linda Kessler, an American artist who lives and works permanently on the island.
The exhibition presents paintings – abstract and figurative – as well as black and white photographs with a social and existential dimension. In her paintings, Kessler uses unconventional materials and techniques such as scratching, etching and drilling to create densely layered works with intense texture and energy. The end result combines structure and deconstruction in a form of organized chaos that reveals the inner intensity of the creative process.

In photography, he chooses black and white imagery with a clear, observant eye. Self-taught, but with a deep understanding of the medium, she observes and records moments from everyday life, either in Patmos or on her travels, aiming to reveal the essential through the seemingly insignificant.

Kessler has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (USA) and her work has been exhibited internationally and is part of important public and private collections. She has lived in countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Italy, France and Spain before choosing Patmos as her permanent home. As she says, her decision to settle on the island was made in just one month of vacation – and was accompanied by a deep sense of gratitude for the acceptance of the local community.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on Monday 21 July at 18:00, with the presence of the artist. Part of the proceeds from the sales of the works will be donated to the Cultural Association Patmos of Colours.
