If we consider that there is an imaginary “centre” in the soul of the island, then it is definitely the small central square in Hora, of Osias Lesbia or Levia – as the locals call it. And in this small square the prominent element is the “taverna” of Vangelis. The designation “tavern” carries a lot of emotion, since when it started to operate in the same place and with many aesthetic similarities with the current restaurant, it was exactly that: the tavern, the “child”, the “home” of Mr. Vangelis Gambierakis and his family.
The older ones cannot forget the iconic figure of Mr. Vangelis of our heart, among the tables of his shop with all his integrity and severity, a relic of a previous generation. Today, among the same tables we meet the next generation, his son Manolis, without any rigour, but with the same love and with a big smile, welcoming us to his place.
In a place that has hosted from the permanent residents of the island, regular visitors, to several well-known artists, shipowners and Hollywood celebrities. Here you will find today a more refined menu with good quality raw materials and careful execution. The setting, which is “cinematic” anyway, is completed by the remarkable flavours and the interesting wine list. All you need to bring with you is your good mood and your inclination to indulge in what we would call “the essence of Patmos”!
