Katerina Mourati
visual artist
Katerina is a whole story in itself. And her story is almost going along with Patmos, when she discovers the island at the age of 20 and in the same time she discovers her artistic talent . In 1987 she held her first solo exhibition in Patmos, followed shortly afterwards, in 1991, by her second exhibition in Brussels.
The first of her successes mark the continuation and the first art critics, Stephen Rey and Anita Nardon, who dealt with her work, classify it as Art Brut. Several more solo exhibitions followed, including the one at Astrolavos Art Gallery in Piraeus, the French Institute in Thessaloniki, the Athens College Theatre, the Stavrakas House and the Nikolaidis Mansion in Patmos. He also participates in several group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
In 1999 she moved to Germany for about ten years, where she came into contact with new ideas and techniques, developing her work. At the same time, she works there as a visual artist in migrant schools and refugee integration programs. Since 2010 she moved permanently to Patmos, where she creates a very beautiful space as a studio and gallery, just below the Monastery, in Hora.
Her art is part of Outsider Art and is the subject of study in Greece by the writer and scholar of the avant-garde, Chris Chanakas.
